It is all about
a symbol,
a
symbol that represents religious faith for many people in this
country. On September 25, 2005 Patrick Stewart was killed in
action in the country of Afghanistan. He was serving his country,
his president, his people. He was to be honored in
Arlington Cemetery as so many patriots and warriors have been in times
past. Yet this time there was a catch. The religious symbol
he wanted placed on his marker was a pentagram, a five pointed star
that represents the Wiccan faith. Although our government allows
a wide diversity of symbols that include glyphs for the Christian,
Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, Mormon, Hindu, and many other faiths, our
government is not allowing the Wiccan star. The rally we attended
on July 4, 2006 was a plea, a cry, a demand for the rights that we
deserve as American Pagans. The following pictures should give
you a flavor and a taste of what the rally was like. Hopefully,
in the weeks or months ahead, I will be able to update this webpage and
share that Patrick Stewart's wish, and the rights of Pagan Americans
has been met. Only time will tell.
